Directed at smaller companies who don’t have their own qualified Health and Safety personnel, this programme highlights areas where practical steps can be taken to improve handling operations and ensure compliance with the manual handling regulations.

• Check of the appropriate systems of work for the employee’s task and environment.
• Practical work to allow the trainer to identify and put right anything the workforce is not doing safely.
• Advice and guidance on workplace design in relation to manual handling.
• Possible use of mechanical aids in the work environment to minimise risk.
• Advice on ways of minimising injury and what to do if an injury should occur.
• Advice on risk assessment and its practical application by the workforce/health and safety representative.
• A written report for the management to include problems encountered and practical remedial action for manual handling issues.
